old friends and beach day

On Thursday I picked Aidan up from his last day of preschool and then we headed to LA to meet up with one of my best friends from high school and her family. We met them at Universal Studios and had a blast. Her son just graduated from high school and this was his graduation present. I know what you are thinking..... How do I have a friend with whom I graduated that has a son that is now a high school graduate? Right? It really seems impossible to me too. lol.
You know how you have those friends who you can go forever without seeing or talking to and you can just pick up right where you left off? I have a handful of these friends and Mikie is one of them. It was great seeing her. :)

I don't think Mikie and I have changed at all in the 25 years we have known each other!
Today we decided to have a beach day. I am sitting here a little toasty and red but it was totally worth it. It was a great day. Aidan and his dad got in some good quality time before he leaves to go oversees for work.
love this crinkled up nose face.

Preschool Graduation

Aidan had Preschool Graduation on Thursday. Sniff... Sniff.... What a special night it was! I can say that his school definitely puts on a nice graduation! The students sang 4 songs and then they each came up and got their "diplomas". When the teachers called them up they said what each one wanted to be when they grew up. It was hysterical! There was everything from policeman, baseball player (Aidans) to a fairy, Transformer, a T-Rex, and one little girl wanted to be a kitty when she grew up. So cute and innocent! I LOVE this age. The kids then went back to their classroom and the teachers played a slide show they prepared. They provided a packet for each student with a nice book, their portfolio, their diploma, report card, and a dvd with the slideshow on it. Aidan came home and watched his 3 times before he went to bed. :) I first thought that Preschool graduations were a little silly but I am glad his school does them. :)

Getting ready to go. He has been asking for a "big boy wallet", so I got him one as a little graduation present.

 with his teachers.....
 Me and my boy....
Aidans 3 year old teacher came to graduation even though she doesn't teach anymore. She is the BEST! Aidan drew her a picture on a thank you card last year for her. It was a "Mercedes" and Aidan said that it was her car. She said that she still had the card ( I had totally forgotten about it) and that she finally got her real Mercedes! Her husband said to tell Aidan that he was some type of prophet. lol!  I LOVE Mrs. Thomas! Excuse Aidans cheesy smile. He was so over pictures at this point and it was the only one I got of them.
 Aidan and his buddy Mattias

In case you couldn't tell, this is the class singing the Pledge of Allegiance. lol!

When Aidan grows up he wants to be a baseball player!

Aidan had a speaking part. He announced the last song "Its a Small World"

This is how the kiddos exited back to their classrooms singing "Its a Small World". I apologize some of the videos are sideways. One of these days I will get the hang of it. :)

You might live with Aidan Kai.....

You might live with Aidan Kai if......
- you walk into the bathroom and find a large couch cushion.

- you are missing the back to 2 of your remotes.

-you are unable to turn on the ceiling fan in your bedroom because the remote has gone missing.

-there are 2 trains sitting on a shelf in your pantry.

- there are 2 cars on the sink in the bathroom where the above mentioned couch cushion was located.

-90% of the time your couch cushions are in the floor.

- you pick up the couch cushions and 5 minutes later they are in the floor again.

- there are matchbox cars in EVERY room in your house and in your car.

- you find juice boxes and yogurt tubes hidden throughout the house.

- you have a fruit bowl full of apples with 1 bite taken out of EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!

- you have to clear your bed of  Legos and return them to their home before you can go to bed at night.

- you are constantly picking up socks around the house that always seem to have missing mates.

- your new (to you) car has an "A" scratched into the paint on the back door. :(

- you laugh no fewer than 12 times a day at the things he says.

-  the best part of your day is first thing in the morning when you are greeted with a good morning hug and a cuddle.

- you are told 20 times a day that you are loved and you are the best mom ever.

- you are magically able to make boo boos go away and tears stop flowing.

Yes. Aidan Kai may be difficult to live with sometimes but I wouldn't trade our life with him for the world!

I mean really??? He is a mess sometimes but HOW can you resist that face?

Family Couch Time

I came down the stairs the other night to find Aidan watching not ( his usual) Nick Jr but ESPN! My baby is growing up! He was happily watching the Oklahoma/ Miami basketball game. Last night we went out to dinner and decided to have some family couch time when we got home and watch the Final game. Go Heat! Annabelle is so funny. She was not about to be left out and jumped up there as soon as she saw everyone else was there. Daddy rubbed mommies AND Aidans feet. Good Man. It is times like this that I think I am the happiest. Love my family.

Summer 2012 bucket list

I read my post about summer time and it sounded almost as if we would be doing nothing this summer! To the contrary, I came up with our "bucket list" for summer 2012 last night. I saw this idea on Pinterest ( one of my obsessions) but it wasn't until I saw that one of my Facebook friends had implemented it that I decided to take action and create our own version! The idea is to create the list and then put a star when it is completed.  There are some things that we have already done that we will probably be doing again. I guess we will be waking up in the morning and asking " what are we going to tick off of our bucket list today?" Aidan is very excited about it and has asked if we can do all of the things TOMORROW.

Happy Father's Day to all of the dads out there! My husband has asked that we go to the beach today so it looks like we will be ticking another one off today. ;0)

knee pits

Last night Aidan's legs were hurting him so I rubbed them for him. He told me in a very serious tone, "but don't get my knee pits mommy."  ( referring to the area behind your knee). I busted out laughing. Ha! what a great name for that area. lol.

sweet summer time

Our schedule has been so full and busy that I have decided to cut back on our activities this summer. After all, this will be the last time I will have Aidan at home full time for a looonnng... time. Fall will mean a big transition for both Aidan and myself. He will be going to Kindergarten full time *sniff* and I am going back to work part time after staying home for 5 years with him. I have to admit the past 5 years have definitely been the best of my life. I have LOVED staying home and being a mommy. I am so thankful to my husband that he has made this possible. I really attempted to make the most of every day and am so thankful that Aidan Kai is in our lives. We have provided him with the most stable, nurturing, and enriching environment that was possible . Now don't get me wrong, I don't think staying at home is all roses and we definitely had our days where I felt like pulling out my hair, but 99% of the time it was beyond awesome and I wouldn't change a thing.

I will be working at a local school for three hours a day. This will allow me to still volunteer in Aidan's class and be an actively involved mom. His new school requires volunteer hours so I think this will be the perfect balance for me. I am a little excited and a little nervous to be going back to work. I am actually going to be a teachers assistant and work one on one with a little boy. I am nervous about taking on the role of assistant compared to the role of teacher. I just have to remember not to overstep my bounds. ;0)

So there will be no soccer, or swim, or t ball or camp or anything else this summer. Only play dates and things that we feel like doing. Our only obligation is a week of vacation bible school. I have a feeling we will be doing lots of last minute things. My plan is to not have a plan, wake up, and say "what do we feel like doing today?" Ahhhh..... sweet summer time!

Check out Aidans preschool graduation picture. Doesn't he look handsome? Love my little boy.

Swim

We have only one more day of swim until we take a break until August, so I decided to get some video of how Aidan is progressing. It is a slow but steady process. He definitely enjoys being in the water and we have spent lots of time in the pool already this summer! He is no where ready for something like the swim team, but that wasn't our goal anyway. I just want him to be water safe and to have fun! I wouldn't call him water safe just yet but he is getting there. After his swim instructor Mr. Matt left he had a little setback. It took him a long time to warm up to his new instructor Mr. Lee but now they are big buddies.

Palm Springs

We decided to take a last minute trip to Palm Springs this weekend. The pictures tell the story...

We started out riding the Tram to the top of the mountain. Can you say STEEP! Once on top of the mountain we decided to take a little hike. Everyone knows you need a walking stick when you hike!

Did I ever mention that my husband is part mountain goat? Seriously he can climb a rock faster than anyone I have ever seen!
Notice Clinton standing on top of the big rock and the little rocks in the forground....
Aidan decided after watching daddy that he wanted to rock climb also.... So he climbed the little rocks.
Very confident! Hmmm.... I think I will see if  I can climb the medium sized rock.
 Not to bad!
Success!! Hmmm.... Maybe I will see if I can climb the BIG rock!
I wouldn't exactly call it success. He got half way up and started freaking out, so Clinton carried him up the rest of the way. Again- part mountain goat. This is the view from where I was standing.
and here is the view with the zoom lens. Not looking to happy. Can you say terrified.
Daddy helping him down. It didn't take him long to get over it and start smiling again.
Next, we had some lunch. Serious case of hat head.
 Me and my sweet boy.
waiting on the tram to go down the mountain.
on the way down we asked him which was his favorite part so far. His answer? Climbing the big rock? Go figure.... but he was very proud of himself.
Next we went to the hotel and hit the pool.
 jumping to dad.
This pic is out of order. Blogger has totally changed their format so I am learning.
More playing in the pool. Don't ask me what the deal is with the hands in the air. It seemed to be the pose of the day.
We spent 5 hours yesterday at the pool. That pretty much sums up our trip to Palm Springs, with the exception of grabbing some dinner. It was an awesome 24 hours!
